Meet Scott Schutzman, LMFT, & His Approach to Therapy
Compassionate, collaborative therapy grounded in connection, awareness, & the freedom to choose
Hi, I’m Scott Schutzman, LMFT
I have been practicing as a psychotherapist for more than 15 years. My work with individuals and couples is grounded in a simple belief: people are capable of meaningful change, greater connection, and a fuller expression of who they are.
I don't see people as broken. We all develop ways of surviving and adapting to the relationships and environments we grow up in. Those adaptations may have been necessary, even brilliant, at the time. But they can eventually become automatic patterns that interfere with intimacy, creativity, confidence, and joy.
Therapy gives us an opportunity to notice those patterns and, from that greater awareness, make different choices.
A Collaborative Approach to Therapy
I believe the relationship between therapist and client is an important part of the work itself. In addition to looking inward for answers, we pay attention to what is happening between us and use that relationship as a place to practice awareness, compassion, communication, and choice.
I bring curiosity, presence, and practical tools to the process. I'm interested in where your patterns come from, and I'm equally interested in how you're living now and what you want to change.
The goal isn't to become someone else.
It's to have more freedom in how you respond, more connection in your relationships, and more access to your creative, curious, vital, and alive self.
Listening and Looking…
We can't always choose what happens to us. But we can become more aware of how we meet what happens—and that awareness can create new, more fulfilling choices.
For more than 30 years, I have also worked as an actor, writer, and director. That experience has taught me a great deal about human behavior, relationships, attention, and the choices we make within the stories we tell.
Those ideas naturally inform my work as a therapist.
Together, we will look at:
What patterns have you inherited?
What choices have become automatic?
What are those patterns trying to protect?
What is no longer serving you?
What happens in your relationships when you feel hurt, afraid, rejected, or disconnected?
What becomes possible when you bring a different attitude or energy into that space?
Hear from previous clients:
“Scott was very instrumental in my recovery through a very difficult divorce. His guidance, patience and kindness gave me the confidence to rediscover my self worth and start again. I am so grateful”.
